Overview
Discover the greener, wilder side of Cappadocia on this full-day journey to the spectacular Ihlara Valley and a mysterious underground city. Carved by the Melendiz River, the Ihlara Valley is a 14-kilometre canyon whose steep walls hide dozens of rock-cut churches decorated with early Byzantine frescoes.
After descending into the valley you follow a shaded riverside trail beneath towering cliffs, passing ancient chapels and the sound of running water — one of the most peaceful and beautiful walks in all of Türkiye. Later you go underground into a multi-level subterranean city where entire communities once lived, complete with ventilation shafts, kitchens, stables and huge rolling stone doors.
With a traditional lunch by the river and a knowledgeable guide to bring the history to life, this tour is ideal for travellers who love nature, gentle hiking and living history away from the crowds.

08:30 — Hotel pick-up and scenic drive. Mid-morning descent into the Ihlara Valley for a gentle riverside walk past rock-cut churches and frescoes. 13:00 — Traditional lunch beside the river. Afternoon guided visit of an underground city, exploring tunnels, living quarters and defensive stone doors. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint before the approx. 17:30 return to your hotel.
