Türkiye Visa Guide: Who Needs One and How to Get It

Travel Tips June 15, 2026 6 min read

Türkiye’s visa rules are traveller-friendly — many nationalities enter visa-free, and most others qualify for a simple online e-Visa. Here is everything you need to know.

Good news first: Türkiye is one of the easier major destinations for visas. Citizens of many countries — including most of Europe, the UK, and much of Latin America and Central Asia — enter visa-free for tourism, typically for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Many other nationalities can obtain an e-Visa online in minutes, without visiting a consulate.

The Turkish e-Visa

The official e-Visa is issued through the government portal evisa.gov.tr. You fill in your passport details, pay the fee by card, and usually receive the visa by email within minutes to a few hours. It is typically valid for multiple entries over 180 days, with stays up to 30 or 90 days depending on nationality. Print a copy or keep the PDF on your phone.

Beware of copycat websites charging inflated “service fees” — always use the official portal, or let a licensed agency handle it for you.

Standard Requirements

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with a blank page.
  • For e-Visas: an eligible passport, email address and credit/debit card.
  • Some nationalities need supporting conditions (a valid visa or residence permit from Schengen, UK, US or Ireland) or must apply through a consulate with hotel bookings, return tickets and proof of funds.
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended and required for some visa types.

Consulate (Sticker) Visas

Nationalities not eligible for the e-Visa apply at Turkish consulates or visa application centres. Typical documents: application form, biometric photos, passport, flight and hotel reservations, bank statements, employment letter and insurance. Processing usually takes 1–3 weeks, so apply early — especially before summer and fair seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to visit Turkey?

It depends on nationality: many countries are visa-exempt for up to 90 days, many others qualify for the online e-Visa, and the rest apply through a consulate. Check the official evisa.gov.tr portal or ask our visa team.

How long does a Turkey e-Visa take?

Usually minutes to a few hours. The e-Visa is emailed to you — apply at least 48 hours before departure to be safe.

How long can I stay in Turkey as a tourist?

Most visitors may stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period; some e-Visa nationalities are limited to 30 days per visit. Overstaying incurs fines and entry bans.
