Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Seven Churches of Revelation Tour
This route begins where empires once defined the Christian world and then follows the memory of the early Church across Anatolia. In Istanbul, former Constantinople, great Byzantine monuments stand alongside Ottoman foundations, setting the historical stage for a journey that moves from cathedral and palace to monastery, underground refuge, apostolic tradition, and the cities addressed in the Book of Revelation. Cappadocia reveals the physical landscape of early Christian devotion in rock-cut churches, monastic settlements, and sheltered valleys. From there, the road turns west toward Ephesus, the House of Virgin Mary, Hierapolis, and the churches of Laodicea, Philadelphia, Sardis, Thyatira, Pergamon, and Smyrna—places where the language of Scripture is anchored in actual cities, ruins, and living historical memory.

2Day 2Istanbul – In the Footsteps of Byzantium and the Ottomans
Istanbul – In the Footsteps of Byzantium and the Ottomans

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and begin a full-day exploration of Istanbul’s historic Old City, where the legacies of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires meet in close succession and where the story of this journey first takes architectural form.
Your first visit is the Hippodrome, once the civic and ceremonial center of Byzantine Constantinople. Here, imperial processions, chariot races, and public events unfolded in the heart of the capital, making this square an essential starting point for understanding the city’s political and religious importance.
Then visit the Blue Mosque, celebrated for the balance of its domes, interior decoration, and place in the Ottoman skyline. Afterwards, you will tour Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s most significant religious monuments. Built as the great Christian cathedral of the Byzantine Empire, Hagia Sophia gathers within its walls centuries of Christian, imperial, and Ottoman history, making it one of the defining landmarks of the eastern Mediterranean.
The tour continues with Topkapı Palace, the former residence and administrative center of the Ottoman sultans. As you move through its courtyards, ceremonial areas, and historic collections, the focus shifts from the Byzantine capital to the Ottoman court, revealing how power, faith, and culture were organized across the empire.
The day concludes with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world. Time is allowed to stroll through its historic passageways and encounter traditional Turkish carpets, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and local handicrafts, all part of the commercial culture that has long animated Istanbul.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight in Istanbul.
3Day 3Istanbul – Markets and the Bosphorus / Flight / Cappadocia
Istanbul – Markets and the Bosphorus / Flight / Cappadocia

After breakfast, you will begin the day with a visit to the Spice Bazaar, one of Istanbul’s most vivid historic markets, where the city’s long trading history is still legible in its stalls of spices, Turkish products, and regional delicacies.
You then continue with a Bosphorus Cruise, enjoying panoramic views from the water of Istanbul’s European and Asian shores, historic palaces, waterfront mansions, and well-known landmarks. Please note that the Bosphorus Cruise is operated on a shared public boat.
After the tour, depending on the available flight schedule, you will be transferred to Istanbul Airport for a domestic flight to Kayseri Airport (ASR) or Nevşehir Airport (NAV).
Upon arrival, you will meet your driver and be transferred by private vehicle to your hotel in Cappadocia. After check-in, the remainder of the evening is free. Overnight in Cappadocia.
4Day 4Cappadocia – Early Christian Memory in Stone and Valley
Cappadocia – Early Christian Memory in Stone and Valley

Before sunrise, you may leave your hotel in the early morning to join an optional Hot Air Balloon Ride over Cappadocia (*Optional). This unforgettable experience offers panoramic views of the region’s unique valleys, fairy chimneys, and dramatic volcanic landscape.
After the flight, you return to your hotel for breakfast and a short rest.
Later, you will meet your guide and begin exploring Cappadocia’s rich Christian heritage. The region is mentioned in the New Testament among the lands represented on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem (Acts 2:9), and it also appears in the opening of the First Epistle of Peter (1 Peter 1:1), reflecting the presence of early Christian communities in Asia Minor.
Visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum, one of the most important monastic centers of the Byzantine period. Its rock-cut churches, chapels, monasteries, and frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and early Christian tradition show how Cappadocia’s geology was adapted for worship, contemplation, and communal religious life. Here, faith is not only remembered in texts but also preserved in the carved fabric of the landscape itself.
Then continue to Paşabağı Valley, known for its striking fairy chimneys and rock formations, where secluded monks once lived in rock-cut cells. Afterwards, visit Devrent Valley, famous for its imaginative natural formations and distinctive volcanic landscape, a reminder of the unusual terrain that shaped settlement and devotion in this region.
After lunch, a brief introduction to Cappadocia’s traditional handicrafts is provided before returning to your hotel.
Overnight in Cappadocia.
5Day 5Cappadocia – Underground Refuge, Open Vistas, and Avanos Craft
Cappadocia – Underground Refuge, Open Vistas, and Avanos Craft

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and begin the day with a visit to Kaymaklı Underground City, one of Cappadocia’s most remarkable subterranean settlements. As you explore its tunnels, living quarters, storage rooms, kitchens, ventilation shafts, and places of worship, the ingenuity of these spaces becomes clear. The site is closely associated with the ways early Christian communities sought refuge and protection in periods of insecurity while sustaining communal and religious life.
Then proceed to Pigeon Valley, named after the many pigeon houses carved into the surrounding rock formations. From here, the wider Cappadocian landscape opens out, and the dovecotes also speak to older patterns of agriculture and daily life that tied human settlement closely to the land.
Continue to Uçhisar Castle, Cappadocia’s highest natural viewpoint. From this commanding rock formation, the valleys, fairy chimneys, and ancient settlements can be read almost as a map, while the site’s strategic importance across the region’s history comes into focus.
After lunch, continue to the historic town of Avanos, situated on the banks of the Kızılırmak River and famous for its centuries-old pottery tradition. Visit a local pottery workshop and watch artisans shape clay using traditional techniques. This experience recalls the imagery of the potter and the clay in Jeremiah 18:1–6, symbolizing God’s guidance, purpose, and transforming work.
At the end of the tour, return to your hotel.
Overnight in Cappadocia.
6Day 6Cappadocia / Flight to Izmir / Kuşadası
Cappadocia / Flight to Izmir / Kuşadası
After breakfast, enjoy free time depending on the domestic flight schedule.
At the appropriate time, check out from your hotel and transfer by private vehicle to Kayseri Airport (ASR) or Nevşehir Airport (NAV) for your domestic flight to Izmir.
Upon arrival at Izmir Airport, you will meet your driver and continue by private vehicle to Kuşadası. After check-in, the rest of the day is free; you will have time to rest before the journey turns fully toward the biblical and archaeological landscapes of the Seven Churches of Revelation.
Overnight in Kuşadası.
7Day 7Ephesus – House of Virgin Mary – Basilica of St. John – Hierapolis
Ephesus – House of Virgin Mary – Basilica of St. John – Hierapolis

After an early breakfast, you will meet your guide and begin the day with a visit to the House of Virgin Mary. This is traditionally believed to be the place where Mary spent the last years of her life. The visit recalls Jesus’ words from the cross when He entrusted His mother to the Apostle John: “Behold your mother” (John 19:26–27).
Continue to the magnificent Ancient City of Ephesus, one of the most important centers of early Christianity and remembered as the first of the Seven Churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 2:1–7). Ephesus also played a major role in the ministry of the Apostle Paul, who lived and preached in the city for several years (Acts 18–20). Walking its ancient marble streets places the biblical record within a major urban center of the Roman world, where monuments such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Great Theatre still define the site, and where Acts 19 gains particular historical setting.
Then visit the Basilica of St. John, built over the traditional burial place of the Apostle John. According to early Christian tradition, John lived in the Ephesus region, cared for the Virgin Mary, and continued his ministry here in his later years.
After the visits, continue to Pamukkale and explore the ancient city of Hierapolis, mentioned in the New Testament in connection with the ministry of Epaphras (Colossians 4:13). After discovering the significant remains of this ancient Greco-Roman and early Christian city, enjoy the unique view of its white travertine terraces.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Overnight in Pamukkale.
8Day 8Laodicea – Philadelphia – Sardis – Thyatira
Laodicea – Philadelphia – Sardis – Thyatira

After an early breakfast, depart from Pamukkale and begin the day with a visit to Laodicea, one of the Seven Churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 3:14–22). Known for its wealth and prosperity, Laodicea received a powerful message about spiritual lukewarmness and the need for renewed faith. The city is also mentioned by the Apostle Paul in his Epistle to the Colossians (Colossians 4:13–16). As you explore its churches, ancient streets, theaters, and monumental structures, the force of those scriptural words is set against the scale of a once-prosperous urban center.
Continue to Philadelphia, praised in the Book of Revelation as the faithful church that kept Christ’s word and did not deny His name (Revelation 3:7–13). See the surviving remains of the ancient city and consider the endurance of its early Christian community within a landscape where little survives in monumental form, yet the biblical association remains strong.
The journey then continues to Sardis, the former capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lydia and another of the Seven Churches. In Revelation 3:1–6, the church in Sardis is called to wake up and strengthen what remains. Explore the city’s significant archaeological remains, the Temple of Artemis, and other monuments reflecting its rich ancient history, where the grandeur of the old capital forms a striking backdrop to that admonition.
Afterwards, visit Thyatira, mentioned in Revelation 2:18–29. The church was praised for its love, faith, service, and perseverance, while also being warned to remain faithful. Visit the archaeological remains of the ancient settlement and learn about the city’s commercial and early Christian heritage. At the end of the tour, continue to Pergamon and transfer to your hotel.
Overnight in Pergamon.
9Day 9Pergamon – Smyrna
Pergamon – Smyrna

After breakfast, begin the day with a visit to Pergamon, referred to as Pergamum in the Book of Revelation and one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor. The church was praised for remaining faithful despite persecution, yet was also called to stand firm against false teachings (Revelation 2:12–17). Explore the impressive Acropolis of Pergamon, including the remains of ancient temples, the steep theater, and other monumental structures overlooking the surrounding region, a setting that still conveys the city’s former political and religious prominence.
Continue to Izmir to visit Smyrna, another of the Seven Churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation. The church of Smyrna was praised for its faithfulness during suffering and persecution and was encouraged to remain faithful even in the face of death (Revelation 2:8–11).
Visit the Ancient Agora of Smyrna, one of the most important surviving remains of the Roman city, and learn about the historical context in which the early Christian community lived and worshiped. Here the tour closes its biblical sequence in a city where the urban fabric of antiquity still helps frame the message addressed to the church.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Izmir.
