Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Seven Churches of Revelation Tour
This route begins where empires once defined the Christian East and where the skyline of Istanbul still gathers Byzantine memory and Ottoman grandeur into a single horizon. From there, it moves inland to Cappadocia, a landscape shaped by volcanic stone and marked by the long presence of early Christian communities, before turning west toward the Aegean to follow the geography of Revelation through the churches of Ephesus, Laodicea, Hierapolis, Philadelphia, Sardis, Thyatira, Pergamon and Smyrna. It is a journey that joins Scripture, archaeology and living tradition with unusual coherence: from cathedral and palace to rock-cut chapel, from apostolic memory to the ruins of cities that once received the words of the Apocalypse.

Scenes from your journey

Your journey, day by day
1Day 1Arrival in Istanbul
Arrival in Istanbul
Welcome to Türkiye. Upon arrival at Istanbul Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel by private vehicle.
After checking in at the hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure. It is a gentle beginning before the route unfolds in full: first through Istanbul, where the legacies of empire and Christianity stand in close proximity, and then onward to the landscapes and cities that frame the journey through the Seven Churches of Revelation.
2Day 2Istanbul’s Imperial Heart: Byzantine and Ottoman Heritage
Istanbul’s Imperial Heart: Byzantine and Ottoman Heritage

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and set out into Istanbul’s historic Old City, where the ceremonial center of Byzantine Constantinople and the power of the Ottoman court still shape the map of the city.
Your first stop is the Hippodrome, once the public stage of the Byzantine capital. Here, imperial ritual, chariot races and political upheaval unfolded in a space that carried the pulse of the city’s civic life.
From there, you will visit the Blue Mosque, celebrated for its balanced architecture, cascading domes and finely worked interior decoration. The route then continues to Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s defining religious monuments. First built as the great Christian cathedral of the Byzantine Empire, Hagia Sophia bears witness to centuries of Christian worship, imperial ambition and Ottoman transformation.
The day continues at Topkapı Palace, the residence and administrative center of the Ottoman sultans. As you move through its courtyards, ceremonial areas and historic collections, the structure of Ottoman political and cultural life comes into view with unusual clarity.
You will complete the day at the Grand Bazaar, among the oldest and largest covered markets in the world. Walking its historic passageways, you will have time to encounter traditional Turkish carpets, jewelry, ceramics, textiles and local handicrafts within a commercial setting that has served the city for centuries.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel.
3Day 3Spice Bazaar, Bosphorus and Flight to Cappadocia
Spice Bazaar, Bosphorus and Flight to Cappadocia

After breakfast, the morning begins at the Spice Bazaar, one of Istanbul’s historic markets, where the city’s trading past is still evident in the displays of spices, local delicacies and Turkish products.
You will then continue to a Bosphorus Cruise, an essential passage through the geography of Istanbul itself. From the water, the city reveals its two continents at once: the European and Asian shores, waterside mansions, historic palaces and the layered skyline that made this strait one of the strategic centers of the eastern Mediterranean. Please note that the Bosphorus Cruise is operated on a shared public boat.
After the tour, depending on the current flight schedule, you will be transferred to Istanbul Airport for your domestic flight to Kayseri Airport (ASR) or Nevşehir Airport (NAV).
Upon arrival, you will be met by your driver and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel in Cappadocia. After check-in, you will have free time for the rest of the evening.
4Day 4Cappadocia North Tour: Monastic Landscapes in Stone
Cappadocia North Tour: Monastic Landscapes in Stone

Before sunrise, you will depart your hotel early in the morning for an optional Hot Air Balloon Ride over Cappadocia. This experience offers panoramic views of the region’s valleys, fairy chimneys and volcanic terrain, helping to place the day’s exploration within the scale of the landscape itself.
After the flight, you will return to your hotel for breakfast and a short time to refresh.
You will then meet your guide and begin discovering Cappadocia’s Christian heritage. The region appears among the lands represented in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost in the New Testament (Acts 2:9) and is also named in the opening of the First Epistle of Peter (1 Peter 1:1), evidence of the presence of early Christian communities across Asia Minor.
The first major visit is the Göreme Open-Air Museum, one of the most significant monastic centers of the Byzantine period. Among rock-cut churches, chapels and monastic spaces, you will see frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and themes from early Christian tradition. The site shows how local communities adapted Cappadocia’s soft volcanic stone into places of worship, contemplation and organized monastic life.
Afterwards, you will continue to Paşabağı Valley, where the distinctive fairy chimneys also preserve the memory of hermit monks who once occupied isolated rock cells. The contrast is striking: unusual geological forms that also became settings for withdrawal and devotion. You will then visit Devrent Valley, known for natural formations whose shapes invite interpretation and for a landscape that makes Cappadocia’s volcanic origins especially legible.
After lunch, you will receive a brief introduction to Cappadocia’s traditional handicrafts before returning to your hotel.
5Day 5Underground Refuge, Valley Views and the Craft of Avanos
Underground Refuge, Valley Views and the Craft of Avanos

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and begin the day at Kaymaklı Underground City, one of Cappadocia’s most remarkable subterranean settlements. As you move through tunnels, living quarters, storage rooms, kitchens, ventilation shafts and places of worship, the practical intelligence of the site becomes clear. You will learn how early Christian communities used such underground settlements as places of refuge and protection in uncertain times, preserving both faith and communal life beneath the surface of the land.
You will continue to Pigeon Valley, named for the many pigeon houses carved into the rock. The valley opens a wider view across Cappadocia’s terrain while also recalling the traditional agricultural importance of these dovecotes in local daily life.
The route then leads to Uçhisar Castle, the highest natural viewpoint in Cappadocia. From here, valleys, fairy chimneys and older settlements can be read almost as a map, and the strategic value of this extraordinary rock formation in regional history becomes easier to understand.
After lunch, you will continue to Avanos, a historic town on the banks of the Kızılırmak River, long associated with pottery. In a local workshop, you will watch artisans shape clay using traditional techniques, an encounter that naturally recalls the biblical image of the potter and the clay in Jeremiah 18:1–6, with its theme of God’s guidance, purpose and transforming work.
At the end of the tour, you will return to your hotel.
6Day 6From Cappadocia to the Aegean: Flight to İzmir and Transfer to Kuşadası
From Cappadocia to the Aegean: Flight to İzmir and Transfer to Kuşadası
After breakfast, depending on the domestic flight time, you will have free time at leisure.
At the appropriate time, you will check out of your hotel and be transferred by private vehicle to Kayseri Airport (ASR) or Nevşehir Airport (NAV) for your domestic flight to İzmir.
Upon arrival at İzmir Airport, you will be met by your driver and continue by private vehicle to Kuşadası. After check-in at the hotel, you will have free time for the rest of the day and time to rest before the journey turns fully toward the sacred and historical landscape of the Seven Churches of Revelation.
7Day 7Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of Saint John
Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of Saint John

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and begin with a visit to the House of the Virgin Mary, believed according to longstanding tradition to be the place where Mary spent the final years of her life. The visit recalls Jesus’ words from the cross as He entrusted His mother to the Apostle John: “Behold your mother” (John 19:26–27).
You will then continue to the Ancient City of Ephesus, the first of the Seven Churches addressed in the Book of Revelation and one of the major centers of early Christianity (Revelation 2:1–7). Ephesus was also central to the ministry of the Apostle Paul, who lived and preached here for several years (Acts 18–20). Walking the marble streets, you will encounter monuments such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theatre, the latter closely connected with the events described in Acts 19. In Ephesus, the New Testament world is not abstract; it is anchored in a city whose urban form still survives in remarkable detail.
Later, you will visit the Basilica of Saint John, traditionally built over the burial place of the Apostle John. According to early Christian tradition, John lived in the Ephesus region, cared for the Virgin Mary and continued his ministry here in the later years of his life.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel.
8Day 8Laodicea and Hierapolis: Admonition, Witness and the Landscape of Pamukkale
Laodicea and Hierapolis: Admonition, Witness and the Landscape of Pamukkale

After breakfast, you will depart from Kuşadası and continue to Laodicea, one of the Seven Churches addressed in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 3:14–22). In antiquity, Laodicea was known for wealth, banking, textile production and medical achievement, making the biblical warning about spiritual lukewarmness all the more pointed within its original setting. The city is also mentioned by the Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Colossians (Colossians 4:13–16).
You will explore the extensive ruins of Laodicea, including ancient churches, streets, theaters and monumental buildings, tracing the setting of a community that stood at the intersection of prosperity and spiritual challenge.
You will continue to Pamukkale to visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, an important center in the Roman and early Christian periods. Hierapolis is mentioned in the New Testament through Epaphras, who showed deep concern for the believers in Colossae and those in Hierapolis (Colossians 4:13).
You will explore the remarkable ruins of Hierapolis, including its streets, theater and early Christian structures. Afterwards, you will see the singular white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, formed by mineral-rich thermal waters. Here, biblical memory, classical urban remains and one of Türkiye’s most distinctive natural formations meet within the same landscape.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel.
9Day 9Philadelphia, Sardis and Thyatira: Faithfulness Across Three Cities
Philadelphia, Sardis and Thyatira: Faithfulness Across Three Cities

After an early breakfast, you will depart from Pamukkale and begin with Philadelphia, praised in the Book of Revelation as the faithful church that kept Christ’s word and did not deny His name (Revelation 3:7–13). Among the surviving remains of the ancient city, the emphasis falls less on monumental scale than on the endurance of a Christian community remembered for steadfastness.
The journey then continues to Sardis, once the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lydia and another of the Seven Churches. In Revelation 3:1–6, the church in Sardis is called to wake up and strengthen what remains. The archaeological remains carry the weight of a much older political history as well, and you will explore major monuments including the Temple of Artemis and other structures that reflect the city’s long importance.
You will then visit Thyatira, addressed in Revelation 2:18–29. The church there was commended for love, faith, service and perseverance, yet also warned to remain faithful. At the site, you will encounter the archaeological remains of the ancient settlement and learn about Thyatira’s commercial life and early Christian heritage. At the end of the tour, you will continue to Bergama and be transferred to your hotel.
10Day 10Pergamon and Smyrna: Power, Pressure and Perseverance
Pergamon and Smyrna: Power, Pressure and Perseverance

After breakfast, you will begin the day with Pergamon, named in the Book of Revelation as one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor. The church was praised for remaining faithful despite persecution and was also urged to stand firm against false teachings (Revelation 2:12–17). At the Acropolis of Pergamon, the setting itself explains much of the city’s importance: temples, the steep theater and monumental remains rise above the surrounding region, expressing the authority and prestige that once defined this center.
You will continue to İzmir to visit Smyrna, another of the Seven Churches addressed in the Book of Revelation. The church of Smyrna was praised for faithfulness in suffering and persecution and encouraged to remain faithful even in the face of death (Revelation 2:8–11). At the Ancient Agora of Smyrna, one of the principal surviving remains of the Roman city, you will consider the urban environment in which the early Christian community lived, worshipped and endured pressure.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel.
