On a Nile cruise, the moments between the monuments are part of the appeal. You return from a temple visit, settle back on board and continue towards the next chapter. Choosing the right cruise starts with three questions: where do you want to begin, how many nights can you give it, and how much sightseeing should be included?
Aswan to Luxor: three nights, a connected cultural route
The four-day guided Aswan–Luxor cruise begins with Aswan’s landmarks, including Philae Temple, and an included felucca sail. The route continues through Kom Ombo and Edfu towards Luxor. Karnak and Luxor Temple introduce the East Bank; the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s Temple and the Colossi of Memnon complete the listed West Bank visits.
This is the shorter of the two cruise directions in the collection. It offers a concentrated sequence of guided discoveries with three nights on board, rather than three days of uninterrupted leisure sailing.
Luxor to Aswan: four nights on the river
The five-day guided Luxor–Aswan cruise starts with Luxor’s East Bank, followed by the West Bank before sailing onward. Edfu and Kom Ombo lead into Aswan’s landmarks and felucca experience. The additional night changes the flow of the trip; it is not merely the shorter itinerary read backwards.
If your onward plans work better from Aswan, this direction may be a useful starting point. If you are connecting from Cairo, discuss that connection separately rather than assuming a domestic flight is part of the cruise.
Guided or flexible: decide what you want your days to contain
In the guided versions, the listed visits include the specified transport, English-speaking guiding and entrance fees. The flexible Aswan–Luxor cruise and flexible Luxor–Aswan cruise keep excursions separate from the full-board stay.
Flexible does not mean that a temple visit becomes free because the vessel stops nearby. Select your preferred excursion packages in advance and ask for a clear inclusion list. Guided is the simpler comparison if most of the listed sites are already on your wish list; flexible suits travellers who would rather choose fewer visits.
Before you choose a sailing
Published embarkation days are Monday, Wednesday or Friday from Aswan, and Thursday, Saturday or Monday from Luxor. These are planning references, not a live availability calendar. Confirm your particular vessel, departure date and operating sequence before arranging non-refundable travel.
Full board covers the stated cruise meals; arrival-day arrangements depend on your arrival. Abu Simbel and balloon experiences are optional in both guided and flexible programmes. Destination airport transfers are included, but flights and any preceding Cairo stay are excluded. Four-star and five-star vessel alternatives are subject to confirmation, not automatic allocation.
